in front of the Confederate entrenchments at Cold Harbor, Virginia, June, 1864… “June 3rd, Cold Harbor I died” Company "A" 13TH Battalion Virginia Light Artillery Army of Northern Virginia CSA "Otey's Battery" Welcome to the site of the Richmond Otey Battery. This site is a tribute to a little known, but one of the finest batteries
of light artillery in the Confederate Army. Though this battery is not well known, it and its sister batteries in the 13TH
Virginia Light Artillery, served in vital regions doing yeoman service. From its organization in March, 1862 until May, 1864
the battery served in the mountainous regions of Southwest Virginia and East Tennessee keeping the Virginia and Tennessee
Railroad open as a lifeline of the Confederacy. In May, 1864 the battery joined Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia
and participated in such bloody battles as Cold Harbor and "The Crater", placing itself in the pantheon of heroes of the Army
of Northern Virginia. “We Few.. We Happy Few ..We Band of Brothers” Captain George Gaston Otey Mortally Wounded At Lewisburg, West Virginia May 23, 1862 Captain Otey died of his wounds in October, 1862.
